AHMEDABAD: President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam will next month dedicate to the nation the Design Vision Centre of the National Institute of Design (NID) here. "The Design Vision Centre, the first of its kind in the country, will be dedicated to the nation by the president Jan 5," Darlie O. Koshy, executive director of NID, told reporters Tuesday. "The centre, with an outlay of 50 million ($1.14 million), integrates rapid prototype development, high performance visualisation systems, modelling and related processes through computer-aided product development and innovation technologies under one umbrella," he said. The centre will comprise high-tech facilities to cater to the growing demands of education and applied research at NID. It will also help the institute serve the industry better. The upcoming centre will also include a lab with virtual reality environment and a business research support cell for the industry-sponsored applied research programmes. The premier design school has also organised an exhibition - "Hands On, Minds On" - in the campus along with a display of award-winning design innovations of students and alumni. President Kalam will also be the chief guest for the 25th convocation ceremony of the institute the same day, Koshy said.
