Mumbai: Leading private carrier Jet Airways has signed a framework agreement with Bangalore International Airport (BIAL) for sub-leasing land to construct a base for maintenance and engineering facility at the new airport in the IT hub. However, the company did not divulge details regarding the agreement and the facility to be set up. Jet currently has a hangar to get 'C' checks, or maintenance checks, to be done once in 18 months at the old airport in Bangalore, which is owned by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL). Jet chairman Naresh Goyal had said in October last year that the company was looking at sites in Bangalore, Hyderabad and Nagpur for setting up a maintenance facility. Jet and its low-cost arm JetLite operate a fleet of 91 aircraft made by Boeing Corp and ATR.
