Bangalore: Various media reports speculating that the Japanese electronics maker Sony could be a potential acquisition target of Apple to help it jump into the gaming industry. Apple currently has $50 billion in cash reserves and has a market capitalization of $282 billion while Sony has a market cap of $34 billion. Financially Sony is within Apple's reach. Whereas some analysts are sceptical about the feasibility of a buy-out and raise a question: What good reasons are there for Apple to want to buy Sony? Between the iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, Apple App Store, the Mac and the upcoming Mac App Store, the company has all the pieces they need to make a serious play for the gaming market should they so desire. "If Apple tries to buy the whole of Sony, it will be a hostile takeover, and that will probably not succeed in Japan," said one analyst in Tokyo "I don't think Sony would want to join hands with Apple since it is working with Google to compete against Apple," he added. The Sellers Research firm also confirm that 99.99 percent certain that Apple isn't planning on buying Sony. Whereas Sony spokeswoman Sue Tanaka said: "We cannot comment on rumors or speculation."
