New Delhi: They all are tall, have better bodies and a good walk - that is what the judges had to say about the international models who dominated the space on the ramp at the Delhi Fashion Week (DFW) auditions here Thursday. More then 40 girls from Brazil, Russia, Spain and Ukraine were standing tall among the Indian models and were optimistic about getting selected for the DFW that will be held March 19-24 at the plush Emporio mall in Vasant Kunj. Even designer and jury member Malini Ramani gave thumbs up to these foreign faces because of their good height and great curves. "We have to accept the fact that Indian girls are generally short, exceptions are there but still we are restricted when we have a choice to make. These international models come as a breath of fresh air for us," Ramani told IANS. "They are genetically well built and have good bodies and better walks so they definitely have an advantage," she added. Most of these international models had come to the auditions through international modelling agencies and last year too DFW had as many as 10 models from South Africa. "We have not called any of them personally, it is just that we had informed every modelling agency about the auditions and they have sent them here. This is a good thing for the fashion fraternity because this gives us an international identity," DFW consultant Nair explained. 22-year-old Miriam Ilorah from Sweden is keeping her fingers crossed about her selection. "I am excited as well as nervous because competition is very stiff and I want to be one of the selected girls because I love designer Rohit Bal and it will be a dream come true for me if I can wear his clothes on the ramp," Ilorah told IANS. Ilorah has also participated in the New York and London Fashion Weeks. The jury board included designers like Rohit Bal, Malini Ramani, Atsu Sekhose, Alpana Mittal of label Azara, ad-man Prahlad Kakkar, models Fleur Xavier and Neha Kapur and fashion photographer Tarun Khiwal. Ivina Ira, 24, from Ukraine came here through an international modeling agency and feels that she has a fair chance of getting selected because of her different features. "I feel I do stand out from the crowd and I have a nice walk. I am confident enough and can carry any types of clothes with aplomb," Ira said. But this has not bogged down Indian girls because they feel that confidence and luck is the real key to success. "You need to have the confidence when you walk the ramp because you get just one chance and if you fail to impress the judges there, you simply lose an opportunity," aspiring model and also a winner of the reality show "Get Gorgeous" Iris Maity said. "If you are good they will surely choose you but I do not think that they are biased. Just be yourself and be confident and you will definitely be selected irrespective of your nationality," she added. More than 200 boys and girls had come for the auditions and around 30 models will be selected from this audition who will then get a chance to rub shoulders with the top-notch models during DFW.
