BANGALORE: Intel Corporation, the world's largest chip maker, Wednesday introduced in India its latest Centrino-based notebook personal computers (PCs) with mobile computing ability. The Centrino mobile technology includes Intel processor, chipset, wireless hardware and network connection software for mobility. Also called laptops, the notebooks come with entertainment and business features. "The new mobile platform enables the notebooks to be not only a computer and wireless communicator, but also a gaming console, home theatre, MP3 player and a critical business companion," said Intel South Asia's Amar Babu here. The US-based global IT firm expects over 150 different notebook designs based on the new Centrino mobile technology to be available this year. "Upcoming notebook PCs will range from fully loaded, 17-inch wide-screen models with Intel high definition audio and surround sound capability to tiny, lower-power PCs that weigh less than three pounds," Babu said. According to IDC India, about 200,000 mobile computing notebooks were sold in the sub-continent last year as against 84,000 units in 2003. This segment is projected to grow by at least 50 per cent in the current year.
