Infosys Technologies Monday announced its expansion in the Australian market with the setting up of a global development centre in Melbourne.

BANGALORE: The centre, Infosys' first facility in the region, is expected to create 100 jobs initially, said a company statement issued here, adding the centre will be integrated with other facilities located in the U.S., Europe and India. The centre is expected to be operational in the next 8 to 12 weeks, the statement added. "The setting up of the centre will enable the import of best practices and the global experience of Infosys to the Australian market," said N.R. Narayan Murthy, chairman and chief mentor of Infosys Technologies. The Nasdaq Stock Exchange-listed Infosys said it plans to ramp up the resources to involve more people and further develop the infrastructure in the next few years. "Our goal is to hire the best and brightest professionals to provide quality services to our customers in the country," said Ananda Rao, country manager (Australia and New Zealand). "Infosys provides its employees a challenging environment to work in and I am sure employees in the Melbourne Development Centre will find Infosys a great company to work for." The centre will leverage Infosys' technology, infrastructure, people and high quality processes to provide predictable and quicker time to market solutions through its global delivery model, the statement said. Infosys' Australian clients include Suncorp Metway, Vodafone and Telstra. The company has over 10,000 employees in over 30 offices worldwide.
