NEW DELHI: India's dominance in the global BPO market might be short-lived as almost eight nations including China, Mexico and South Africa are seriously eyeing a chunk of the market share and upgrading their technical skills for the same, according to an Assocham study. Suggesting a shift of focus from the BPO market in the US and Japan to Europe and Asia Pacific, the study said India's advantageous position in the market is in for critical appraisal as countries like Philippines, Ireland, Canada and Russia enjoy certain advantages over India. "The constant growth of China on the infrastructure front and rising economic affluence has made it a good destination for non-voice processes," Assocham president MK Sanghi said while releasing the study. Similarly, Mexico and Canada have an edge over India in terms of their proximity to the US, he noted. Citing the time zone advantage of South Africa which is similar to that of Europe, he said the country has easy accessibility to Europe and its English speaking population. Suggesting more language-specific curriculum at school level in the country, Sanghi said India should adopt a medium-long term sustainable strategy to add value to processes as other countries are also moving aggressively to upgrade their skills.
