India's Radius ties up with Ericsson for broadband access

New Delhi: Telecom infrastructure provider Radius Infratel has signed a pact with Swedish giant Ericsson for getting its technology and expertise for providing broadband access in India by reaching high-speed fibre optic cables to end-users.
As many as 600,000 households and businesses will get high-capacity broadband access, thanks to the pact, which will use the latest technology from Ericsson -- its largest fibre-to-home order in the country, the two companies said in a statement.
"Using the technology, Radius can also provide building services, such as parking management, access control, automated lighting, and security services, through a single integrated infrastructure," the statement added.
"Consumers will be able to enjoy internet speeds of up to 100 mega bits per second, internet TV, and the most bandwidth-intensive entertainment available from multiple operator on single fibre reaching to their homes."
Radius said more than half a million Indian subscribers will get connected through fixed broadband as it had already started connecting Indian homes with high-speed fibre access in 2009.
"We expect that by 2015 more than two million Indian homes and businesses will be connected to high speed broadband using our technology," added Gowton Achaibar, the Head of India region for Ericsson.
