Indian telecom firms have signed up as many as 22 deals with their Israeli counterparts covering a wide spectrum of the industry including telecom, Internet and mobile phones during a five-day mission to this country.

JERUSALEM: "The results exceeded all expectations. We are absolutely delighted at the turnout and with the fruitful response," said Seytish Mehta, commercial counsellor at the Indian embassy in Tel Aviv. Tie-ups included the signing of memorandum of understandings, consolidation of existing projects and two-way transactions of orders for purchases and sales. The 15-member Indian delegation to Israel, led by Tata Industries' managing director Kishor Chauker, included top executives from Spice, BPL Communications, Net4India, Satyam Infoway, Zip Global, and Idea Cellular Ltd. More than 160 Israeli business people attended a daylong India-Israel Telecom Conference last week, jointly organised by the Indian embassy and the Israel Export Institute. The conference deliberated on different aspects of the software industry in India and the Indian government's tax incentives offered to foreign investors. In Israel, the Indian executives met with top directors of leading Israeli companies such Comverse Multimedia Technologies, Alvarion, MRV Communications and Gilat Satellite Networks. The delegation members also held discussions with local representatives of venture capital funds such as Apex Partners, Vertex Management, Israel Deloitte and Touche, Pitango Venture Capital and Jerusalem Venture Partners. An Israeli telecom delegation is expected to visit India in November to meet with executives of Indian companies in Bangalore, Mumbai and New Delhi.
