NEW YORK:An Indian American professor, Amar Gupta has introduced a course on BPO in the University of Arizona encouraged by the growing among U.S. students in BPO. “I was in the office of former dean Lester Thurow at MIT Sloan School. He received a call from CBS’ 60 Minutes on outsourcing. I told him that I had received a similar call. We discussed and decided to work together in the area of outsourcing,” Gupta, professor of entrepreneurship, Eller College of Management at the university said. He also said that in early 2005, several students had enquired about a course in outsourcing. “ Thurow said that Massachusetts Institute of Technology should start a course on the subject and that we could begin one a year later. I said the students were looking for something shorter to which he suggested that we teach the course in the coming fall,” Gupta said. “Finally, he agreed to my idea to teach the course in the spring term itself. It was an unprecedented gamble. To launch a new course more than a week after the beginning of the semester with no syllabus at all.”
