NEW DELHI: A 14-member trade team from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) will be in Britain from September 9-12 to seek collaborations and joint ventures in the defence sector. The visit will coincide with the biennial Defence Systems and Equipment International (DSEi) Exhibition being held in London, according to a CII statement Sunday. The delegation is to be led by Vikram Sahgal, CII defence committee member and managing director of Micron Instruments Pvt. Ltd. "The CII is organising this 2nd CII Defence Mission to Britain with the primary objectives of promoting joint ventures, partnerships and collaboration between Indian and British companies. This mission is especially relevant with the opening up of the Indian economy to 26 percent foreign direct investment in defence," the statement said. "DSEi would provide the CII delegation with a unique platform to see the latest systems and equipment from the world's defence industry and provide scope to develop international relationships and generate new business opportunities," the statement added. The areas of interest for the mission are diverse and include ammunition fuses, artillery related defence products, defence electrics, combat and light armoured vehicles, automobiles for defence, simulators, electromechanical products and sub-assemblies, precision components and steel items used for defence. DSEi is recognised as one of the leading tri-service defence shows in the world. The exhibition, to be held for four days, will combine exhibits, displays, demonstrations and conferences. Besides one-to-one interaction with companies, the CII defence delegation will network with international companies for technology tie-ups and joint ventures. The delegation will also meet with key government officials and explore possibilities for outsourcing from India.
