Indian journalists to receive prize for reportage in New York

New York: Three Indian women journalists will receive the 10th annual Sarojini Naidu Prize for Best Reporting on Women and Panchayati Raj in an event held by The Hunger Project, a New York-based nonprofit organization. The event that will be held at the Bahai Center Auditorium at the United Nations in New York on October 21, will honor Rumni Ghosh with the Best Reporting in Hindi award, Preethi Nagaraj with the prize for Best Reporting in English and Bornali Boruah for Best Reporting in Other Regional Languages, Assamese. Ghosh, from Indore in Madhya Pradesh, is a special correspondent with Dainik Bhaskar, a Hindi daily and has over 15 years of experience in journalism with articles on political investigations, crime, social issues, war and natural calamities and human rights. Nagaraj is senior reporter with Deccan Herald who focus on socio-cultural issues and rights-based works related to women, children, people living with HIV/AIDS and minority communities while Boruah has reported for The Dainik Janambhumi since 2001 and Ajir Dainik Batori since 2005 and has won many awards like All Assam Journalist Union Award for Woman Journalist of the year in 2008. The Sarojini Naidu Prize was first awarded by the Hunger Project on Oct. 2, 2001. It aims to encourage Indian journalists to provide increased and accurate coverage of women's participation in local government, including their battles to achieve success.
