During his address at the inauguration of GITEX, Ramalinga Raju, founder of Satyam Computers and chairman of Nasscom said, "Indian IT industry is expected to grow to over $ 80 billion by 2010, as the industry is set to make giant leaps in the services segment." "In 1990, the size of the IT industry in the country was just $ 100 million and last year, IT exports from the country was over $ 23 billion. According to estimates, the global economy currently stands at $ 420 trillion, of which two third is contributed by services industries," added Raju. He further mentioned that this would offer a great opportunity for IT companies as majority of these could be virtually managed and delivered. However, he feels that the industry faces many challenges due to infrastructure and human resource development."To achieve the set targets and move the growth forward the government needed to make efforts by coming out with pro-active policies to bring out the development of the infrastructure sector faster than expected."
