NEW DELHI: State-owned domestic carrier Indian Airlines is to close its office in Lahore, a move described as a message against Pakistan's continued support to cross-border terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. The closure comes more than a year after India and Pakistan banned overflights amid heightened tension following the December 13 attack on the Indian Parliament that India said was carried out by terrorists backed by Islamabad. Civil Aviation Minister Shahnawaz Hussain told reporters Monday he had signed orders for closing down the Lahore office after consulting External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha. Hussain said the Lahore office was staffed by six people, including an Indian and five Pakistanis, and cost 7.2 million a year. The airline also has an office in Karachi.
