NEW DELHI: India has considerably improved its position and is ahead of China in exploiting global information and communication technology (ICT), a just released study says, basing its assessment on mathematics and science education, affordability of telephone connection charges and government prioritization. The Geneva-based World Economic Forum ranks India at 39th position among 104 nations, up from 45 last years. China was a few points behind India, capturing 42nd position compared with 51 last years. "The Networked Readiness Index (NRI) has evolved into an accepted global benchmark of an economy's preparation to participate in and benefit from information and communication technology developments," said Soumitra Dutta, Professor of Business and Technology and Dean of Executive Education and co-editor of the report. Singapore knocked down the United States from top ranking to fifth position after it had topped for three years. The report explained that the reason was not deterioration in performance in America but improvement in other players.
