India is open to private participation, including foreign investment, in nuclear power generation and in the area of radiation technology for use in sterilisation of medical products and processing of food products.

NEW DELHI: "Though the government is open to specific offers for private sector participation, Indian or foreign in nuclear power generation, it has so far not received any concrete proposals for the same," the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) stated Thursday. "Such (nuclear power generation) offers when received will be considered under the prevalent rules and regulations," the statement added. India is keen on increasing the share of nuclear power among power generation sources as it targets to add another 100,000 MW over the next ten years. To give a fillip to private investment in radiation technology, for use in health-care products and food processing, DAE has decided not to set up any new plants on its own. "The Department has decided not to set up any new plants of its own for utilising radiation technology in sterilisation of medical products and processing of food products," the DAE stated.
