India among top 3 in wind energy -study

NEW DELHI: A new study indicates that India has emerged as the third largest wind energy market worldwide in terms of new installations. The study by World Wind Energy Association (WWEA) said India ranks fifth in terms of capacity, but will overtake Denmark soon to become the fourth largest in terms of wind energy capacity. The study also said Asia had 9.8 percent of the global wind energy market last year with India contributing a capacity addition of 875 MW and growing at 42 percent. The country's total wind energy capacity registered a growth of 41.5 percent to 2.985 MW last year, accounting for about 3 per cent of the overall generation capacity of the power sector.
