India adds 14.5 Million GSM subscribers in March

New Delhi: India's GSM subscriber base grew by 2.61 percent in March with the addition of 14.5 million mobile phone users, of which Vodafone Essar alone signed up over 3.65 million users. The total number of GSM subscribers in the country crossed 569.56 million as against 555 million in February, according to the data released by Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI). Vodafone now has a market share of 23.63 percent with 134.57 million subscribers. Telecom giant Bharti Airtel followed up with an addition of 3.2 million subscribers, taking its total users to 162.2 million. Idea Cellular added 2.7 million subscribers to take its total subscribers base to 89.5 million. State-owned BSNL added 1.36 million subscribers to reach a total subscribers base of 86.46 million. New telecom operator Uninor added 1.2 million to have a total of 22.79 million subscribers.
