Increase in the NRI Deposits in Banks of Kozhikode District

Bangalore: There has been a huge increase in the NRI deposits in banks of Kozhikode district, during the second quarter of the year, 2011. As per the calculations on June 30, there was a rise of 25 crores in the deposits. It rose from RS.2,005 crore to RS.2,030 in the month of June in 2011, which was just 1863 crore as on September 30, 2010.

The goal of the banks were to hit an amount of 2646 crore, but they managed to come up with a total credit of 3565 crore. This is 135 percent more than the expected and intended amount. Out of the total credit an amount of Rs 1,239 crore has been spent on agriculture (126 per cent of the target), Rs 53 crore for non-farm sector (57 per cent) and Rs 517 crore for other sectors such as home and education loans (60 per cent). 1,758 has been accounted for the non-priority sectors.

By the end of the quarter, the credit- aspect ratio in Kozhikode district was 80 percent, 1 percent lower than the ratio in the previous quarter. But, there has been an increase of 4 percent when compared with 2010’s ratio. There was a growth of more than 100 percent in the total education loans, which has rose from 317 crore to 661 crore.
