IT industry?s reactions on budget

BANGALORE: The IT industry has welcomed the budget calling it progressive and helpful for the industry in the long run. Sanjeev Sharma, Managing Director, Nokia India said "The Union Budget 2005-06 clearly shows the government's commitment towards the reform process and long term vision for the telecom sector. Gautam Sinha, CEO, TVA Infotech said ?Overall a good budget as stress on infrastructure will lead to creation of jobs and a positive spiral on the economy. Rationalization of the income tax structure will benefit the salaried class and the cut in corporate tax rate will lead to buoyancy in the capital markets. While Pradeep Kumar - India President and Vice-President, Emerging Markets, STMicroelectronics said, ?The 2005 budget is a step forward in the ongoing reform process. The budget while moving on to globalization emphaises and provides for the basic needs of India?s common man in terms of education, health and water necessary for his upliftment. Sify Limited CEO R. Ramaraj said ?the Finance Minister has delivered a growth oriented Union Budget with a fine balance between growth & development and the upliftment of the common man. While the IT sector is capable of generating 7 million jobs by 2009, the Information & Communications Technology (ICT) Sector, has the potential to increase this manifold. In this context, this year?s Budget could have included more to accelerate the process of growth in the ICT sector for both job creation and contribution to GDP growth.
