HYDERABAD: With offshore software and solution delivery becoming the most favoured business model for many IT companies, the rush for placement in their India development centres is also on the rise. In addition to the local hiring, IT companies are now busy relocating their employees in overseas offices to India. The Bangalore-based i2 Technologies is one of the IT companies pursuing the model of relocating overseas employees. i2 has developed an exclusive programme for all its employees keen on moving to India. “They are coming back since the opportunity in India currently is very encouraging. Companies are looking to have people with overseas experience in their Indian centres to harness various teams,” i2’s managing director and senior vice-president Sankalp Saxena told TNN. i2’s programme — called Move 2 India (M2I) — has helped 200 of its employees in various overseas centres including the US to come back to India. “The scheme is oversubscribed now,” Saxena, who has also relocated to India after a 33-year stay abroad, said. The professionals returning to India are being used to help bring various teams together. And i2 has found a lot of value in the effort. “Though we cannot quantify the value the company has derived, it is immense,” he said. i2 has centres in Bangalore and one in Mumbai. Of its 2,600 employees globally, 1,100 are in India. Despite finding more of its employees keen on relocating, the company is planning to continue hiring locally. “Only locally hiring will help us maintain the right balance in the skill pool,” he said. i2 Technologies established a presence in India over 15 years ago and its teams are focused on product development, consulting, customer support and sales as well as marketing.
