Hyderabad: People of India will soon be able to translate regional languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, Punjabi and Marathi into Hindi on web, as a new translation machine named Sampark is being developed by nine institutes including IITs and universities and will be launched in the country in June this year, reported BusinessLine. The beta version would allow users to get their documents translated into Hindi from seven Indian languages. The program is funded by the Union Ministry of Information Technology and anchored by International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT). "We are working on 18 systems (translations among these languages). It will be upgraded as we get the feedback," said Prof. Rajeev Sangal, Director of IIIT. IIIT is also in the process of developing an open source translation program called Anusaaraka that allows translation of English text into Hindi. According to the students working on the program, they will launch a beta version 0.50 soon, while keeping in mind the complex grammar of Indian languages; it will take some time to launch a better version.
