CHENNAI: The premier Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras will soon set up a company to give licences for inventions by its students and teachers. Such inventions and innovations will be licensed to corporate houses, IIT director M.S. Ananth said at a weekend discussion on "University As A Business Enterprise". The company will be set up under the guidance of a panel, including professor Ashok Jhunjhunwala, who is a telecommunications expert; an official of Infosys Technologies; and several technocrat teachers. The company will come into being in six months. IIT Madras will also help the Sri Lanka government set up a similar institution in Colombo soon, Ananth said.
