New Delhi: Indian Institutes of Management (IIM) will have to review their plans to expand campuses to foreign countries as a review committee constituted by the government of India to look into the overall functioning of IIMs advocates to use existing resources to the fullest before further expansion. This may adversely affect to IIMs like Bangalore IIM, who are planning to open foreign centers. IIM Bangalore had earlier approached the HRD ministry for the approval last year. However, the committee states that major IIMs, including Bangalore and Ahmadabad can increase their yearly intake to 750 if they focus on optimizing resources and other IIMs which have the scope can also do it. Committee assumes that by increasing the intake the institutes could enhance their efficiency. "IIMs needed to concentrate on reaching the optimum level of resource utilization, the committee mentioned. A panel member said, "We have suggested the formula of economy of scale, which means that bigger the scale, the less is the economy factor." The committee has submitted the report to HRD minister and he is in talk with experts for a decision on the report. The committee also ruled out IIMs to become independent. It has recommended a 15-member pan-IIMs board and reconstitution of the existing boards.
