Hyderabad: Aiming at jointly conducting useful research and bringing out cutting edge technologies in cloud computing, Yahoo! Indian R&D has partnered with Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Hyderabad. It is expected that around 90 percent of computing globally will be done through cloud computing. The move is expected to give researchers in Yahoo and IIIT-H a platform to share and gain from the knowledge and tools in the area of cloud computing and encourage IIIT-H students to take up research in this area. The institute is currently offering cloud computing as an optional course in undergraduate and postgraduate curricula. Prof Vasudeva Varma, Associate Professor at IIIT-H and principle investigator of the joint collaboration project said that IIIT-H is planning to set up cloud infrastructure at IIIT-H research centers and at the institute level. "We also aim to contribute in a big way to open source development in the area. The collaboration with Yahoo! India Research and Development will help boost our efforts to achieve these goals," Varma added. Yahoo India R&D hopes that collaboration like these will aid industry-academia interactions and lay a strong foundation for the creation of the much needed research talent.
