THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala's IBS Software Services, which specialises in logistics software solutions, has bagged a contract from the Sharjah Department of Ports and Customs. The software outfit will implement a complete port management solution, iPort, for three Sharjah ports, according to a press release issued here Tuesday. "The software is fully ready and the deal is worth $140,000. We will supply as well as install the solution before November. Initially this solution would be implemented for the three ports," IBS Software Services global manager (marketing) Varghese Jacob told IANS. The iPort solution would be used to automate the operations of the Mina Khalid, Khor Fakkan and Hamriyah ports. It would integrate the marine, traffic, accounts, engineering, personnel and real estate departments of the ports. Commenting on the Sharjah Ports venture, the director general of Sharjah Ports, Issa Jumma Al Muttawa, said: "We looked at various options for the port management initiative and, after a rigorous selection process, found IBS equipped to carry out this development and implementation." He said IBS was selected because of its competence in the transportation and logistics domain, and its professional approach at providing cost-effective quality IT solutions. According to the company release, iPort visualises the entire port operations as an integration of individual functions, optimally planned, co-ordinated and managed to provide a seamless service chain to the port user community. The iPort solution provides scalability to suit specific needs as port operations increase in size and complexity. Selective role-based access to the application for remote and corporate users ensures data privacy and security, according to IBS. "It is a strategic relationship for IBS and we are committed to ensuring its success," said IBS Software Services CEO V.K. Mathews. "Our experience and expertise in the transportation and logistics arena is our key strength behind building functionally and technologically superior software solutions for our customers worldwide. The tie-up is a major business opportunity. We are confident this will be a stepping stone to future successes in the region," said Mathews. IBS is a software development and support services company with headquarters in India, and sales and business development offices in Atlanta (USA), Zurich (Europe), Dubai (Middle East) and Singapore (Asia-Pacific). IBS was the largest exporter of software from Kerala for the second consecutive year last fiscal, with a total turnover of 700 million. It employs about 500 engineers. In March IBS had entered into a $1.5 million contract to supply transportation and logistics solutions to Gulf Share, a consortium of oil companies operating in the Gulf of Mexico.
