BANGALORE: In a remarkable example of how India is progressing from a country to which businesses outsourced routine programming and back-office work into a center for leading-edge innovation, IBM today said that it is moving all of the design and development of its acclaimed business consulting offerings to India. The Bangalore center will allow IBM consultants to develop and deploy solutions in over 50 key business areas such as consumer-driven supply chain optimization, banking risk and compliance and retail merchandising, a company statement said. IBM expects to invest more than $200 million, per year to develop, enhance and market these solutions. With this center, IBM will create and enhance a portfolio of replicable industry solutions that are developed by combining the strengths of IBM's business consulting, research, software, systems, engineering, and emerging technologies, a company statement said. These new solutions will be built on IBM's Services Oriented Architecture (SOA) methodology and in collaboration with IBM clients and business partners, it said. "At the global business solutions center, IBM is embedding a range of high-value capabilities such as consulting, research and emerging technologies into easily managed reusable tools that can be delivered globally," said Amitabh Ray, Director of Global Delivery, IBM India. "In doing so, we are creating a new model for delivering consulting services that will allow our clients to have greater access to innovative solutions for solving their most important business issues," he said.
