Shenzhen, China: Huawei Technologies, a provider of next generation telecommunications network solutions, has announced the successful development of its 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GE) prototype. This represents another breakthrough for Huawei following the company's launch of a 100G wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) prototype in July this year, makes Huawei the first in the industry to master 100GE and 100G end-to-end transport technologies. The 100GE technology provides a high-speed Ethernet interface and works with 40G and 100G WDM technologies to provide a complete end-to-end transport solution for operators that can support large-capacity data services. The current boom in broadband services has placed significant bandwidth demands on transport networks and existing 40G WDM technology which is currently widely-deployed on a commercial basis in many networks around the world. Huawei is introducing 100GE Ethernet technologies and 100G WDM technologies to meet the demand for ultra-broadband services in the future. Huawei's 100GE prototype realizes the even distribution of the rate to 10 physical channels to successfully implement the 100GE port technology. In addition, this prototype supports monitoring and protection functions and provides the 100GE port with high reliability. Currently, Huawei is actively participating in the development of the 100GE standard 802.3ba. "Launching the 100GE WDM prototype is hugely significant for us following the launch of the 100G WDM prototype earlier this year," said Christian Chua, president of Huawei Transport Network Product Line. "With these Huawei has become the only supplier in the industry that can provide the end-to-end transport solutions for large-capacity OTN/WDM data services," he added.
