Hefty pay for expats in Asia; U.K., U.S. suffer
Singapore: Expats in the different regions in Asia enjoy a better income compared to their counterparts in the other continents. A third of foreigners based in Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates, Thailand and India enjoy an annual pay package of more than $200,000, says a survey. Compared to the Asian countries, countries like Australia and Belgium has more than 60 percent of expats claiming less than $100,000 as an annual pay package. The expats in these regions are amongst the poorest, as the global average of expats with below $100,000 annual salary is 35 percent, reports Reuters India. The findings based on 2009 Expat Explorer survey also reveals that the third of all expats in Russia, earn more than $250,000 a year, followed closely by expats in Japan and Qatar. Malaysia, China and India also rank among the cheapest regions for accommodation of the expats. The cost-effectiveness has also helped Saudi Arabia, Russia, Qatar, India and the United Arab Emirates to emerge as the top five countries, where people have increased their savings.
