Haier to launch high-end mobile handsets in India

CHENNAI: Haier Appliances (India) Pvt Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of China-headquartered Haier Group, on Friday said it will launch a range of high-end mobile phone handsets in India in the next couple of months. "We will launch the mobile phone handsets in couple of months," president and CEO of Haier India, T K Banerjee said, adding, Haier has 60 models of cellphone sets, which are highly popular in other markets. "We have pen-phones, camera phones and other models which are aimed at high-end customers," Pranay Dhabhai, director, Haier Appliances India, said. Launching an array of home appliance products including refrigerators, washing machines, air-conditioners and microwave ovens for the South Indian market here, Banerjee said the company was aiming at a sales of Rs 300 crore in the first year of operations from the home appliances segment. Haier Appliances launched its home appliance products in the North Indian markets in January. "We are getting an enthusiastic response from customers in northern states," he said here.
