Bangalore: Hewlett-Packard (HP) is backing its commercialized 'Educenter' initiative to raise its presence in the Indian education space. Educenter is a solution platform which delivers education content through video streaming on Wi-Fi networks. Currently,Educenter is focused around the engineering discipline, but HP India plans to expand it to management studies as well. "We are talking to multiple institutes across India. The solution helps in bridging the gap between the student and teacher ratio," said Himanshu Seth, Country Manager (education and mid-market), HP India. The company is also talking to the IITs and other educational universities for deployment of the platform. Incidentally, HP India has developed the solution for Educenter in its Bangalore R&D centre. HP is now exploring options for deployment of the platform in other markets. "Educenter solution has attracted a lot of interest from other HP subsidiaries in the Asia Pacific region," said Seth. Seth also mentioned that the company has already entered into partnership with 17 engineering colleges for deployment of Educenter. HP India has entered into a partnership with National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) for content creation. NPTEL is a joint venture between the IITs and Indian Institute of Science, and develops course content in engineering and science. HP already has a reservoir of 5,000 hours of video content. "NPTEL currently provides learning content for Educenter in five engineering streams - computer science, electronics, electrical, mechanical and civil. We plan to expand the number of streams and also include management studies in the future," said Seth.
