NEW DELHI: HCL Technologies is in a restructuring mode. Soon after merging various brands in its software umbrella, including the recently acquired HCL Infosystems software operations, the company is now aligning its BPO operations, splitting it into three product functions, with heads of each reporting directly to chairman, Shiv Nadar. HCL Comnet, its remote network management arm is also being rechristened as HCL Infra Services and all the services will be sold under the common umbrella. “All these services will be offered under a common brand. BPO, for instance will be HCL BPO and Comnet services as HCL Infra. BPO operations will be carved into three separate functions,’’ confirms Shiv Nadar, chairman, HCL. The BPO operations now will be headed by Ranjit Narsimhan, and marketing by HCL America head Raj Sirohi and a new product development function will be created. The restructuring exercise has also seen several top-level professionals been reshuffled and several including BPO head putting in their papers. “Some of our colleagues have in the past gone off to found new ventures of their own and some others have carved out impressive careers at other companies - facts that bear testimony to the quality of our managerial ranks. The recent changes are similar events,’’ says Shiv Nadar. The company has recently rejigged its offerings portfolio. In the last two years, HCL has been betting heavily on Applications development and maintenance; Enterprise solutions; BPO; and IT Infrastructure Management services. Its exposure to the traditional mainstay of product engineering has come down from about 75% to around 48% now. With the rebalanced portfolio, the company is trying to cross-sell various service offerings like in the case of AMD contract, where HCL rode on the back infrastructure service management remotely done as the key service offering. “BPO and IT infrastructure management services will be two major growth drivers. Our exposure to product engineering has come down drastically and we are enriching our application development and maintenance portfolio specially through joint ventures with Deutsche Bank and Jones,’’ he adds.
