Gujarat seeks venture capital in hi-tech areas

MUMBAI: Gujarat government has sought venture capital investment in new growth areas like infotech biotechnology and IT-enabled services in the state. The state, with strong entrepreneurial culture, high quality infrastructure including roads, telecom and IT and educational institutions and business-friendly administration was an ideal place for making investments, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi said addressing a function organised by The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) on Tuesday. The government has taken steps to make the state a knowledge capital and many higher level institutes like Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology have been set up in the last three years, he said. The state has wide area network for digital economy and service and 50,000 km optical fibre network is in place for connectivity, he said adding, IT grid would take e-governance to the grassroots and boost infotech, biotech and ITES. The government has set up a professional mechanism to facilitate quick response to queries from the prospective investors, Modi said.
