AHMEDABAD: Gujarat is planning to start Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) filling stations in this city to control pollution. Chief Minister Narendra Modi announced before a high-level committee a time-bound roadmap for CNG supply management in Greater Ahmedabad, an official release said. Modi said a draft CNG act would be placed before the council of ministers this month and the federal government's permission too would be sought, it added. Gujarat Adani Distribution Company has said it will open at least 10 CNG fuel stations in the city by March 2005 for buses and auto rickshaws running on CNG. The state-run Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation too will set up about 30 CNG stations in the city before June 2005. The state government also decided that each of its 25 departments will convert at least five petrol-driven vehicles into CNG mode. CNG use will be made obligatory for new auto-rickshaw owners seeking permit after April 2005, even as an action plan is on to convert existing rickshaws to CNG.
