NEW DELHI:Germany is willing to step up investment in India's infrastructure, including energy and transport projects, Germany's economics and labor minister said. Wolfgang Clement who met Finance Minister P. Chidambaram discussed India's economic liberalization and the need for greater investment, especially in infrastructure projects. Germany has invested an average of $125 million (€96.15 million) in India annually for the past 10 years. "We spoke about the objective of economic reforms, including in agriculture. We want to engage in India's infrastructure development especially roads, airports, harbors and energy sectors," Clement said after his meeting with Chidambaram. "We want to be present more in the Indian market, especially in the small- and medium-scale sectors and infrastructure." Clement, who is accompanied by nearly 100 German business representatives on his India trip, also said India should play an important role in the World Trade Organization. The two sides also discussed ways to boost German investment in areas like information technology, biotechnology, telecommunications, and small and medium-sized enterprises.
