BANGALORE: General Electric is stepping up its outsourcing of software development to India. MindTree Consulting, an IT consulting company, announced on Wednesday the opening of its GE Global Development Center at its West Campus location in Bangalore. MindTree will focus on the IT requirements of the equipment services division of GE in ERP, data warehousing and web-based development, says Subroto Bagchi, CEO of MindTree. GE already outsources software development to some companies in India, including Tata Consultancy Services in Mumbai. The centre will have about 50 people to start with. Similar software development operations set up by Indian companies for GE typically have headcounts that go up to about 500 or more. MindTree has set up six similar development centres for key customers, including Volvo in Sweden. Alan Kocsi, CIO of GE Equipment Services Division, was present on the occasion and unveiled the plaque marking the functioning of the Development Center. Among those present at the inaugural were many senior GE functionaries including Jeff Schimpf, Head of GE Global Networking Organization and Rakesh Bharadwaj, CEO of GE's Global Technology Solutions based in India.
