NEW DELHI: The government today said foreigners cannot wowrk in the booming BPO sector in India. With the outcry from the West over outsourcing yet to subside, the Indian?s government?s stance may trigger an avoidable controversy. Minister of state for information technology, Shakeel Ahmed, said requests from foreign nationals for employment visa for jobs, for which a large number of qualified Indians is available, will not be considered. He said that only such foreigners who are skilled and are qualified professionals being engaged or appointed by a company or an industry will be eligible to get an employment visa in the first place. Citing estimates by the National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom), he said nearly 2,000 foreigners are working in the domestic IT-enabled services (ITES) sector.
