CHENNAI: Extreme Networks (EN), a leader in open converged networks, today announced the establishment of a software development center in the city, the first R&D facility outside the U.S. Talking to reporters here, EN Vice-President, Engineering, Siva Ananmalay said the facility was one of the company's engineering sites developing innovative networking solutions for customers to implement an open converged network supporting voice, video and data. Engineers at this center would focus on software solutions that would advance the state-of-the-art in enterprise and service provider networking infrastructure. He said the software engineering team in Chennai would be ramped up to 100 in the next 12 months and the new facility was equipped with world-class infrastructure. Envisioned as technology development centre, Ananmalay said the centre was located in Chennai considering the strong infrastructure like power, transportation and telecom. Besides, Chennai provided a favorable investment climate and offered a growing pool of highly talented engineering professionals and top grade educational institutions. He said EN was the first leading company in technology space to set up wholly owned R&D operations in India. However, he refused to divulge the quantum of investment in the new facility and said ''it's quite significant.''
