HYDERABAD: Ambassador and Head of the Delegation of the European Commission to India, H.E. Mr Michel Caillouet, in a speech at the B.M. Birla Science Centre here today stressed the importance of co-operation between the European Union and India in the field of Science and Technology. The EU-India Agreement for scientific and technological co-operation, and the international dimensions of the European research programme, "Sixth Framework Programme for Science and Technology" are the most important channels through which this important part of the EU-India relationship is to materialise. 'By seriously and dedicatedly including Science and Technology Co-operation within the overall EU-India agenda, both partners will ensure the continuity of their relationship - from present challenges such as poverty alleviation to those anticipated for the future, with an emphasis on knowledge-based and equitable economic growth. Only then will we indeed fully be: Partners in Progress', said the Ambassador in his address to the audience of scientists and prominent members of the Hyderabad community. In his speech, the Ambassador referred to some historical examples to stress the ties that bind India and Europe in scientific thought. Mr Caillouet, mentioning the EU's position as largest trade and investment partner of India, also referred to the need for a favourable and open economic climate to benefit technology transfer, and links between researchers and industry.
