Electronics Corporation of India Ltd (ECIL) has posted a turnover of Rs 1,005 crore for the year 2002-03, a jump of 48% when compared to the turnover of Rs 681 crore for the year 2001-02.

HYDERABAD: Defense sector contributed to 45 percent of turnover followed by 32 percent by the civilian sector. The nuclear sector contributed for about 15 percent followed by eight percent contribution from Telecom. This performance by the company is a result of a number of management initiatives that were taken in order to discover the inherent strengths of the company. "During the past one or two years we have taken a lot of initiatives to re-align ourselves in accordance with the changing times. We have adopted a customer centric focus emphasizing on customer satisfaction and we have taken steps for financial disciplines and work capital management. We have also focussed ourselves on operational excellence as well as innovation," Ron added. "This is a big achievement for us considering that in the year 1999 we made a loss of Rs 60 crore. So we have come a long way since then and it sure has been a tough ride for us but now we have achieved stability," said VH Ron, chairman and managing director, ECIL. The company targets a turnover of Rs 1,250 for the coming year 2003-04 and profits of Rs 175 crore. "We will continue to do high end projects. Recently, we have been awarded the RailTel project to provide the high end telecom equipment for taking care of their front end. We are also looking forward to expanding ourselves in telecom business including the exports area," he added.
