Dr. Sheela Sharma to join CIIT Centers for Health Research

Research Triangle Park, NC: Dr. Sheela Sharma will join the Division of Biological Sciences at the CIIT Centers for Health Research as Senior Research Investigator. As Senior Program Manager in Cellular and Molecular Toxicology at Alion Science and Technology in Research Triangle Park, NC, prior to her joining the new organization, Sharma will bring 20 years of research experience to the Centers. In her current role, she would be responsible to build new federally funded contract programs that complement and expand current human disease and environmental health research strengths. Dr. David Dorman, Director of the Division of Biological Sciences at CIIT, said, “We are excited that Dr. Sharma is joining CIIT. Her work in cancer prevention and therapeutics brings an important new research dimension to the institute.” Sharma has developed and validated mechanistically based in vivo and in vitro models for testing carcinogens, chemopreventive and chemotherapeutic agents, industrial products, teratogens, and neurotoxicants. Author or co-author of over 100 scientific publications, her other capabilities include identification of biomarker endpoints associated with cancer/angiogenesis progression in order to target them for cancer prevention and therapy and to evaluate potential health hazards associated with nanomaterials.
