Delhiites' Are the Richest in India

Bangalore: The capital has the highest per capita income in India, states a report called “Level and Pattern of Household Consumer Expenditure in Delhi”, conducted by Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi. This report is based on findings of a sample survey conducted during July 2009 to June 2010 under National Sample Survey of 66th Round.

This press release is brought out by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit which states that the per capita income of Delhi during 2009-2010 was 1,16,886, which is highest in the country that is among all states and Union Territories. This figure was 1,03,400 in 2008-2009. The survey was done among 33.60 lakh, out of which 1.79 lakh were from rural and 31.81 lakh from urban areas.

This six years data from 2004-2005 to 2009-2010 also shows that spending on essential food and non-food items rose 75% and 78% respectively, and the monthly per capita expenditure (MPCE) of 2,905 in 2009-10 was the highest across India.
