Delhi firm bags 1 billion order from DaimlerChrysler

NEW DELHI: Sigma Vibracoustic India Ltd, an Indian auto components exporter, said Friday it had signed a 1 billion deal with German auto giant DaimlerChrysler for supplying auto parts. As part of the deal, Delhi-based Sigma will supply anti-vibration components for various DaimlerChrysler products including Mercedes-Benz cars, Artego trucks and Sprinter vans, said a Sigma statement issued here. In the domestic market, Sigma provides anti-vibration parts to Indica, Indigo, Ford Ikon and Maruti Versa, the statement added. "We have been selected by DaimlerChrysler as a single source supplier for these components," said Jagdip Singh, chairman and chief executive officer of Sigma Group. "Supplies have already started and we will be providing six types of components to the German auto major for the next six years," he added. Singh said the company had invested over 300 million for manufacture of anti-vibration rubber components at Mohali in Punjab. "Some of the anti-vibration components are mounted on the body of the automobile while some others are mounted on the engine so that passengers enjoy a smooth journey," he said. DaimlerChrysler India Pvt Ltd., the wholly owned arm of its German parent, currently makes E, S and C class models of luxury Mercedes cars at its facility in Pune. These cars are priced in the range of 2 million to 6 million.
