Delhi Airport's new terminal begins operation
New Delhi: All international flights to and from Delhi will start using the newly built terminal, T3, from today. Only one arrival and two departures will take place from the old terminal T2 after 4.45 pm while the rest would shift to T3, reports Neha Lalchandani from the Times of India. After a successful operational readiness of airlines, ground handlers, aviation oil companies, flight caterers, Air Traffic Control (ATC), concessionaires, duty free shops, airport operator, immigration, customs and CISF, the terminal is set to start operations. Passengers of Air India's flight AI-102 from JFK Airport, New York would be the first to arrive at the world's sixth largest airport at 1645 hours and Air India's Flight IC-895 would be the first flight to take-off from Delhi for Dubai at 1850 hours. Facilities like food and beverage counters, shops and other facilities will be available from Wednesday. The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has deployed volunteers to guide the passengers. Today, around 90 flights are expected to operate from T3, of which about 50 will be foreign airlines. Domestic airlines will operate from the new terminal in a month from now, according to the airport authorities. "We are absolutely prepared to move into the new terminal. The building is ready and everything is in place. The move has been planned for Wednesday between 2pm and 7.30pm as this period sees the least number of operations during the week and it would be easier for airlines to move from the old building once their morning flights have been taken care of," said Andrew Harrison, Chief Operating Officer, Delhi International Airport.
