Coal India set for public issue soon

New Delhi: Coal India Ltd plans to hit the capital market with its much-awaited initial public offer before the end of the first quarter or the beginning of the second quarter of 2007-08 fiscal. The move follows the recent call from the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, to the public sector enterprises to get listed on bourses, which may lead to unleashing of their entrepreneurial capabilities reported a national daily. The company plans to raise 4,000-4,500 crores through this issue. The Chairman, Partha Bhattacharya, indicated that he is waiting for a clear indication from the Coal Ministry for the above issue. He added that the company would be sending a letter to the Ministry on the issue very soon. CIL has an equity base of 6,316 crores and it is the holding company of seven coal producing companies. CIL is also the holding company of Coal Mining and Development Planning Institution, the R&D arm.
