Bangalore: The chip industry witnessed a paradigm shift with the introduction of Apple's iPad this year. What followed was a stream of tablets being introduced in the market that changed the face of the chip industry forever, reports Brooke Crothers of cnet News. When the Apple iPad became a hit, along with it Apple's A4 chip also stuck the bull's eye. Soon it was powering the iPhone 4 as well. The shock shook Intel and CEO Paul Otellini announced that Intel too would prevail in the tablet arena. To dominate the world of tablets, Intel went on to buy Infineon's Wireless Solutions business for $1.4 billion. If Intel is able to buy the company then it will mean that iPad and iPhone 4 will have Intel wireless silicon inside of them in future. It looks like the tablet makers are coming out with their own chips rather than opting for others. Research In Motion also announced BlackBerry Playbook will be powered by 1-gigahertz dual-core processors, however no chip maker was named in particular. Looking at the market, NVIDIA quickly revamped its market strategies. With its Tegra processors, NVIDIA jumped into the CPU business that mainly eyed the tablets and smartphones. AMD admitted that the company does not have resources to jump into the tablet market yet, but it is coming up with power-efficient processors for netbooks and laptops. It is clear that the introduction of tablets has impacted the chip makers who are going all out to make their presence in the new market.
