New Delhi: Dopod International Corp., China's leading mobile communications company, announced its foray into India's premium mobile phone segment. "India's mobile market is huge and the fastest growing in the world. Our focus in this market would be the high-end segment," Ajay Sharma, regional sales manager, Dopod Communication (India) Pvt Ltd, told a press conference here. The company, which launched three PDA handsets here, has tied up with Microsoft to provide various features of Windows in the phone. Dopod International Corp is also present in Taiwan, Honk Kong SAR, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines and Australia. "India is one of the world's fastest growing mobile markets and since the competition is fierce in the low-end mass market we chose to penetrate the premium segment," Charles Huang, channel director, Dopod International, said. "After we are successful in the high-end market, we would like to slowly enter the mass market." The company plans to command a market share of 40-45 percent by March 2007. The three models (818Pro, C800 and C720W) with the price range of 30,000-40,000 will be initially available in 10 Indian cities. The company plans to expand its reach to 25 cities by 2007.
