China's Chery eyes India's small car market

New Delhi: Recent auto industry sources state that the country's cumulative domestic sales of small car during April-November hitting an all time high of 23 percent, hitting 5.2 lakh units, from 4,23,954 units sold in the same period last year. And after Japan, Germany, it is China who is swooping into the Indian market to take full advantage of this growing domestic automobile market. According to a recent report in The Business Line, speculations are around China's Chery Automobile Co is eyeing this sector and are in talks with a North Indian based automotive group to introduce QQ, its fastest selling small car in India. Industry sources are looking at a Joint Venture between the two companies. The QQ is estimated to be priced at Rs 250,000 to 300,000. The company is also forming a JV wit Arhentine firm Gurpo Socma to assemble the QQ cars for South American market. The Chinese car makers are also in a deal to build a small car for DaimerChrysler and had earlier this year formed a partnership with Fiat Auto.
