Bangalore: The CII-IIT Council was recently formed to enable India to become a global hub of excellence in cross disciplinary higher education and in industrial research and development through industry academia collaborations. The CII and the IIT also joined for the same purpose, reports Kirtika Suneja.
The council has been formed with an aim to make India a global hub of technical education. An initiative called 'An industrial Technology & Innovation Mission' involves creation of an industry pool which emphasizes on micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) will invest in product development and future technologies.

The Ministry has supported the centre with
66 lakh and this will support students' business ideas. The incubation centre at IIT Madras will be sector agnostic and will support ventures in sectors such as biotechnology, information technology, engineering and business management, according to Prof. L S Ganesh, head of the entrepreneurship cell at IIT Madras.
These steps are in sync with a commission established by PM Manmohan Singh, which recommended the strengthening of polytechnics and IITs for rural and small town areas for linking technology with skill , unveiling country wide programmes on entrepreneurship and innovation as a motive by MSMEs and adoption of unorganized enterprises by technical colleges.

2: This is a great step. Since CII being the
major body of industry and IIT the leader in
education, they can bring in a lot of
creative and progressive developments to our
technological education system.
