Computer Associates International Inc. Friday announced it would eliminate 450 jobs as part of a world-wide restructuring plan.

ISLANDIA: The company expects to incur a fiscal first-quarter charge of $15 million related to the restructuring, a company spokesperson said Tuesday. Computer Associates said the cuts will occur immediately in North America and over the next several months elsewhere. The company employed about 15,900 employees before the latest cuts. The company has also formed a technical-services unit, called CA Technology Services, by combining its presales technical and professional services organizations. Una O'Neill, previously head of the company's presales technical organization, was named head of the new unit. "Unifying these teams ensures the continuity of the technical care of our customers throughout the project life cycle," Ms. O'Neill said in a written statement. The company will hire an unspecified number of sales people. Computer Associates repeated it will focus its services offerings exclusively in support of company products, but it will continue to honor existing customer contracts on non-CA products.
